5 quotes to remember from The Little Prince

It’s been 75 years this April since The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was first published. To celebrate, we take a look at 5 memorable quotes from this beautiful book.

Few books have been as universally cherished by children and adults alike as The Little Prince. In 2017 Farshore published a beautiful gift edition of this touching and wise classic children’s book, with the original translation by Katherine Woods and full-colour illustrations.

‘Once upon a time there was a little prince who lived on a planet that was scarcely any bigger than himself, and who had need of a friend…’

‘Children should always show great forbearance towards grown-up people.’

‘Men have forgotten this truth’, said the fox, ‘But you must not forget it. You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed. You are responsible for your rose.’

‘He was overcome with sadness. His flower had told him that she was the only one of her kind in all the universe. And here were five thousand of them, all alike, all in one single garden!’

‘It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.’

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900-1944) was born in Lyons, France. He wrote The Little Prince in the United States during a two-year self-imposed exile from occupied France.

A year after the book’s publication in 1943, Saint-Exupéry disappeared over the Mediterranean while flying a reconnaissance mission for his French air squadron.
